To understand the distinctive features of printing processes, you need to understand their bases. But the key to this understanding is principle of distribution the printing element and spacing material or in other words a method of ink transfer onto the material.
Letterpress printing was the first method in the history of printing. Letterpress printing form is usually made of metal (magnesium), that is why it is rigid and provides high-quality printing only on very smooth surfaces. This method is not appropriate for printing on rough material.
